What is an AML check in crypto?

It is an automated evaluation that examines a cryptocurrency address or transaction hash for connections to illicit operations, cybercrime, or sanctioned entities. Unlike traditional banking AML, it uses onchain analytics and transaction clustering to trace fund flows.

Is address screening the same as KYC?

No. Wallet screening assesses the historical risks associated with a public blockchain address and its activity. Know Your Customer (KYC) procedure identifies and verifies the real-world identity of an individual or corporate client. The two can complement each other in a compliance framework.

What does a crypto AML risk score mean?

It is a numerical value (typically on a 0% to 100% scale) that measures the probability and severity of a crypto address or transaction being involved in illicit activity, financial crime, or sanctions violations. A raw score by itself is rarely used in isolation. An AML report provides a breakdown explaining why the score was assigned.

Does a low risk score mean a wallet is safe?

No. A low score indicates that the analytical engine identified minimal risk signals within available dataset mappings at that point in time. Data and attribution can be incomplete, and a score alone cannot guarantee future behavior or establish the legality of funds.
