Tempo performance notes
Tempo is an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain incubated by Stripe and Paradigm, purpose-built for stablecoin payments at internet scale. Tempo has no native gas token – transaction fees are paid in TIP-20 stablecoins, the network's payment-optimized token standard with built-in support for memos and payment references. Powered by Simplex Consensus via the Commonware library and Paradigm's Reth execution client, Tempo delivers ~0.5-second deterministic finality, sub-$0.001 transaction fees, and 20,000 TPS throughput for payment transactions.
What sets Tempo apart is its design around real-world payment workloads: dedicated payment lanes, opt-in privacy, on-chain FX, and a Fee AMM that lets validators receive fees in their preferred stablecoin while users pay in any supported one. It's also the launch chain for the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP). Tempo serves fintechs, payment service providers, payroll platforms, e-commerce companies, banks, and AI agent developers building the infrastructure for autonomous commerce.
