Dogecoin is a Proof-of-Work Layer 1 blockchain built on the UTXO model, launched in December 2013 and derived from the Litecoin codebase (via Luckycoin). It uses the Scrypt algorithm, produces a block about every minute, and is merge-mined with Litecoin through AuxPoW, which shares Litecoin’s hashrate to secure the network.
Fast confirmations and low fees make Dogecoin a common choice for payments, tipping, remittances and merchant checkout. A fixed reward of 10,000 DOGE per block pays miners without relying on high fees, and its Bitcoin-style RPC interface means existing Bitcoin tooling adapts with only network parameter changes.
