How do I add the Base network to my wallet?

Most modern EVM wallets already include it as a default network. If your app does not include it, add it as a custom network. To do this, enter the Base configuration: usually it’s a network name, an RPC URL, chain ID 8453, and currency symbol.

What is a Base smart wallet and do I need one?

A smart wallet is built on account abstraction. Coinbase Smart Wallet, used by the Base App, is the main example. The benefits are real: passkey login, gas sponsorship by the dApp, batched approvals, and social recovery. Do you need one? It depends on what is a Base wallet crypto experience you're after. If you're new to crypto - yes. It removes most of the onboarding friction. For advanced users, it can also improve the UX.

Where can I find my private key or seed phrase in a wallet?

In most applications, you can view your recovery phrase or private key from the wallet’s settings. It’s usually under a Security or Backup menu, or Account details. Never share it with another person or any third party. The encryption inside the software protects the key and phrase. But the moment you share it, that protection is gone.

Can I use a hardware wallet on Base?

Yes. Every major hardware device supports the network through a paired hot/software wallet. Common pairings are Ledger with the Base App or MetaMask, Trezor with MetaMask or Rabby, and OneKey or Keystone with Rabby. For holding meaningful balances, this is the recommended way to set up a Base chain wallet.

Is “Base Wallet” an official wallet app?

There is no app officially called ‘Base Wallet.’ It is a general term describing all wallets that are compatible with Base Chain. The closest official product is the Base App, formerly a Coinbase Wallet, developed and maintained by Coinbase. Many third-party wallets work on Base too. What matters isn't official authorization but whether the wallet is safe to use.
