Ethermine, one of the largest Ethash mining entities in the world, declares that it ceases mining Ether for good after The Merge mainnet activation.

Now official: No support for PoW Ethereum fork from Ethermine

According to the official statement shared by the team of Ethermine, following The Merge activation in mainnet, the pool migrates to a ‘withdraw-only’ mode.

From September 15, 2022, it will no longer be possible to mine Ethereum (ETH) on GPUs and ASICs. Ethereum (ETH) miners who worked with the pool will be able to withdraw their rewards. For the accounts with 0.005 Ether minimum, the manual withdrawals will be also available in Dashboard.

Also, the team officially stated that it will never run mining operations for an upcoming Proof-of-Work (POW) fork of an ‘old’ Ethereum (ETH). A countdown will be launched to allow miners estimate the timeline of transition towards Proof-of-Stake (PoS).

Four alternatives for Ethereum (ETH) miners

As covered by GetBlock previously, there’s a heated discussion between miners about the prospects of Proof-of-Work forks of Ethereum (ETH) codebase after The Merge activation. Bitfly’s Ethermine decided to invite Ethereum (ETH) miners to four alternative Ethash-based coins.

Namely, ETH miners can switch their hashrate to Ethereum Classic (ETC), an initial version of Ethereum (ETH) protocol, privacy-focused blockchain Beam (BEAM), veteran Ethash coin Ravencoin (RVN) as well as to Ergo (ERG) low-cap altcoin.

Ethereum (ETH) nodes by GetBlock: Ready for The Merge

Ethereum (ETH) nodes are going to activate The Merge update in mainnet on Sept.15, 2022. Second largest blockchain will migrate from Proof-of-Work consensus to a Proof-of-Stake one. PoS consensus is way more resource-efficient and scalable.

GetBlock, a high-profile Ethereum (ETH) nodes provider, is fully ready to support The Merge activation. To integrate Ethereum nodes’ endpoints today just sign in to your GetBlock account and choose the shared or dedicated nodes solution.
