Despite the fact that Sepolia merge activation wasn’t all roses, minor synchronization incidents won’t affect the road towards mainnet activation of The Merge.
Ethereum testnet Sepolia migrates to Proof-of-Stake
Yesterday, on July 7, 2022, second largest blockchain Ethereum (ETH) successfully activated The Merge upgrade on its Sepolia testnet. It means that this testing network is now working in accordance with Proof-of-Stake consensus rules.
undefinedEthereum supporter Anthony Sassano has taken to Twitter to confirm that Ethereum (ETH) nodes successfully synchronized and the testing network is adding blocks as intended. The operations of the newly-merged testnet will be monitored closely over the next few days.
During the first phases of the Sepolia merge, 20-30 percent of validators lost connection. However, all issues with Ethereum testnet nodes were resolved in a matter of hours.
It should be noted that Ethereum testnet Ropsten successfully merged on Jun.8, 2022.
Ethereum nodes might undergo The Merge in August, 2022
Prior to mainnet activation of The Merge, Ethereum nodes system should try its mechanisms on the last testnet, Goerli. This testing is expected in the coming weeks.
That said, Ethereum is on track to mainnet activation of The Merge in Q3, 2022. Some developers even hinted at August as the most relevant date for this historical event for Ethereum; The Merge date was postponed a number of times previously.
Migration towards Proof-of-Stake is expected to make Ethereum more democratic, eco-friendly and resource efficient as it will replace miners by stakers. Also, as a next phase of its technical evolution, Ethereum network will be split up to the ecosystem of interconnected shards.
Once The Merge is activated in mainnet, Ethereum (ETH) engineers will cease supporting Kiln, Rinkeby, Kovan, and Ropsten testnets.
