GetBlock, a premium RPC node provider, is proud to support Sonic (S), a next-gen blockchain developed by the Fantom team. Sonic is designed as an upgrade to Fantom, offering an entirely new layer of tech advancements. As part of this transition, support for Fantom (FTM) RPC APIs on shared node modules will be discontinued.
What is happening?
Fantom, a high-performance, EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain, is officially migrating to Sonic (S), which boasts a theoretical throughput of 10,000 TPS and sub-second transaction finality. The inaugural phase of the migration process began in mid-January 2025, and as of this update, the transition is actively underway.
To provide its clients with the most up-to-date Web3 infrastructure, GetBlock has become one of the first RPC node providers to integrate support for Sonic (S).
As a result, support for Fantom RPC nodes will be permanently discontinued. FTM RPC APIs on shared nodes will be deactivated by Wednesday, February 19, 2025. By this date, Sonic (S) RPC nodes will already be available for shared node users.
What actions should users take?
The migration process is proceeding smoothly, with no risk to user funds.
If you are using GetBlock’s shared Fantom RPC nodes for dApp development, please be advised that support for this protocol will be discontinued. We recommend migrating to Sonic in accordance with the official guide by Sonic Labs.
If you hold FTM in a non-custodial wallet powered by GetBlock’s custom RPC, please refer to the same guide for a 1:1 conversion of FTM to S and update your wallet with the new Sonic RPC API address.
Sonic (S) RPC endpoints will be available in our standard dashboard, just like all other shared RPC nodes.
What is Sonic?
Sonic positions itself as the highest-performing EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain, seamlessly integrating speed, incentives, and world-class infrastructure to drive the next generation of DeFi innovation.
From its inception, the Sonic team has been committed to fostering a thriving developer ecosystem, offering an Innovators Fund and an airdrop initiative to support early adopters.
Additionally, Sonic (S) introduces a fee monetization model, enabling dApps to earn a share of the transaction fees generated by their users.
At launch, Sonic will feature full Solidity and Vyper support, along with 100% EVM compatibility, making it a highly attractive platform for deploying smart contracts and decentralized applications.
