Litecoin is a proof of work Layer 1 that launched in October 2011 and has run for 15 years without a recorded outage. It mines Scrypt blocks every 2.5 minutes, four times as often as Bitcoin, on the same UTXO model and Script language. Most miners also merge-mine Dogecoin for extra income. The network averages about 2 TPS, with fees near a third of a cent. MWEB, live since May 2022, adds optional confidential transactions.
