Litecoin RPC: Why should you choose it?

Litecoin is one of the oldest blockchains. Inspired by Bitcoin, Litecoin was introduced in 2011 by Charlie Lee. Its technical design has a lot in common with Bitcoin, so the blockchain is frequently called “Digital Silver”.

  • Litecoin is a Proof-of-Work cryptocurrency, so its transactions are verified by miners. It has a smaller block time than Bitcoin (2.5 secs), increased maximum number of coins (84 million), and a different hashing algorithm (scrypt).

  • Litecoin’s version of PoW inspired the launch of Dogecoin (DOGE), the largest and most popular meme coin that kicked off in 2013.

  • In 2022, Litecoin nodes underwent a major upgrade (soft-fork) dubbed MimbleWimble Extension Block (MWEB). The update enabled transaction obfuscation and allowed the network to join the ecosystem of privacy coins.

LTC nodes don’t support smart contracts “as is' , but there’s a number of projects focused on using it as a security layer for virtual machines capable of running DeFis, NFT marketplaces, and so on.
