BLAST RPC: What is special about it?

Introduced in Q4, 2023, Blast is an L2 on the top of Ethereum. It means that it partially processes data outside Ethereum (ETH) mainnet to reduce the usage of its computation resources.

  • Blast is associated with Blur, a dominant NFT marketplace. Blast L2 network is a brainchild of Blur founder Tieshun Roquerre who is also known as “Pacman”. Blast is backed by Paradigm, a heavyweight international VC firm.

  • Blast kicked off with much controversy around its security design; some sources referred to Blast testnet as “multi-sig” or “sidechain” that was promoted as L2. Despite the allegations, Blast quickly became top-tier L2 in terms of total value locked. In November-December, 2023, Blast L2 network managed to amass dozens of billions in TVL.

  • Blast RPC allows customers to leverage the concept of re-staking: since the beta release of the protocol, customers were able to inject liquidity for periodical rewards in future.

  • Blast L2 testnet successfully launched on January 17, 2024. As such, Blast testnet RPC are ready to on-board test versions of decentralized applications of various types.

Technically, Blast is running on Optimistic Rollup on Ethereum. It leverages OP Stack, an open-source development framework by the creators of Optimism, a second-largest Ethereum’s L2.
