GetBlock, a premium RPC node provider and blockchain infrastructure platform, has added support for Clio, a specialized API server designed for XRP Ledger full and archive nodes.

With Clio integration, GetBlock users can now read and write XRPL blockchain data more efficiently and access functions that were previously unavailable.

The integration of the Clio API server for XRPL nodes has been successfully completed with the support of Ripple engineers Florent Uzio and Peter Chen.

We extend our sincere gratitude for their invaluable expertise and assistance. GetBlock looks forward to continuing its technical collaboration with Ripple.

GetBlock adds Clio API for XRPL: Why is this a big deal?

GetBlock, a premium RPC node provider and Web3 infrastructure platform, now supports Clio, an API server for XRPL nodes. With Clio, XRPL archive RPC and full nodes benefit from significantly faster performance thanks to revolutionary indexing solutions.

To achieve this speed, Clio servers do not connect to the peer-to-peer (P2P) network directly. Instead, they extract data from a designated rippled server that is connected to the P2P network. By handling API calls more efficiently, Clio helps reduce the load on rippled servers operating in P2P mode.

Clio also stores validated historical ledger and transaction data in a highly efficient format, using up to four times less disk space than rippled.

Vasily Rudomanov, CEO of GetBlock, shares his perspective on the transformative potential of Clio-enabled XRPL archive and full nodes for crypto apps:

The XRP Ledger has been running uninterrupted for an impressive 13 years. Over time, the volume of accounts and transactions has naturally rendered XRPL nodes increasingly data-intensive. Clio represents a pivotal evolution. By offloading historical data queries from the core network, it significantly enhances scalability and performance. This opens up new possibilities for dApps and could very well reinvigorate DeFi activity on the XRP Ledger.

It’s also worth noting that, much like DAS API, Clio introduces specialized commands not available via standard rippled servers, giving developers enhanced capabilities and flexibility.

In short, Clio may be exactly what XRPL needs to reach the scale of adoption it deserves. At GetBlock, we’re committed to ensuring our users are always in the front row of this technological journey.

Clio leverages Cassandra or ScyllaDB, allowing for scalable read throughput. As such, setting up Clio node with GetBlock is a huge milestone for everyone building on XRP Ledger, one of the oldest programmable blockchains.

Getting started with Clio API

Also, Clio supports eight methods (commands) that are unavailable for default rippled stack:

  1. server_info
  2. ledger
  3. mpt_holders
  4. ledger_index
  5. nft_history
  6. nft_info
  7. nfts_by_issuer
  8. version

Getting started is simple, just follow two quick steps:

  1. Sign up with GetBlock using Google, GitHub, MetaMask, or email.
  2. Visit our Contact Us page and submit a request for either a Clio Archive XRPL Node or a Clio Full XRPL Node.

Support for deploying Clio XRPL nodes directly through our Dedicated Nodes Configurator is coming soon.

Build on XRPL. Build with GetBlock. Use Clio!
